Lumentum Model 4900 Laser Diode Control Electronics and Mounting System

This high power control solution is an all-inclusive system for controlling Lumentum L4 high power single emitter pump laser diodes. This system includes a precision laser diode driver / current source, a full PID temperature controller, an actively cooled heat sink and all required cables. The current source offers industry leading protection for your laser diode. The heat sink and TEC cooled mounting plate offer a high performance pre-configured mounting solution. The LDC-500X/L4 is an affordable, high performance solution for safely powering your laser and running at a stable temperature in laboratory environments.

Pre-Configured Mounting Plate for Lumentum 4900 Series Uncooled Multimode Pump Laser Diodes (L4)

The LDC-500X/L4 comes with a Peltier / TEC cooled mounting plate which is configured for the 4900 series L4 style package. The mounting plate holes are drilled to 4900 series module footprint and all of the interconnect cables are terminated for the 4900 series pin diameters. In addition to single digit micron level surface flatness and finish, the mounting plate comes with a small piece of graphite thermal foil to ensure the highest levels of heat dissipation.

Factory-Configured Laser Diode Protection

High power laser diode protection features include current limit, slow start current ramp to the user specified set point, adjustable temperature limits, and clamping circuitry to protect the laser against power surges. In addition to the current the temperature limit protection settings, the user has the option of setting the soft-start current ramp time from 300 milliseconds up to 10 seconds. The system is set to a 300 millisecond ramp as the default mode. This user adjustable current ramp allows you to customize the "power on" sequence of the source for your specific application.

Flexible Modulation, Internal Function Generator & QCW Pulse Modes

In addition to CW (continuous wave) mode of operation, the 500X system includes flexible modulation capabilities and a slow pulse (QCW) mode. The rear panel of the controller has a BNC input for an analog or TTL digital modulation input with a 10K input impedance. The controller has an internal function generator which can be used to set the modulation signal or the quasi-CW pulses with a time base accuracy of 1.0%. In QCW mode, the user can also set the 20μs to CW pulses from a remote TTL signal source.

Flexible User Controls

Users have full control of the fiber coupled laser module power through a touch-key front panel menu and LCD display or through the digital interface. You control the high power laser diode amplitude by adjusting the current level or adjusting the laser in automatic power (APC) control mode (Watts of optical power) using an external photodiode. These systems can be controlled remotely by RS232 or USB. They ship with LabView drivers and a terminal control software programming suite. All systems have both digital and analog modulation control inputs.
