Product Overview:
5 Amp, 35 Volt Laser Diode Driver, Powerful OEM Solution
This is a single channel 5 A, 3.3 - 35 V laser diode driver with thermal protection. Because of popular demand from customers, this version of the LPLDD-5A-35V driver is equipped with thermal protection which switches off the laser diode circuit if the temperature exceeds 45 °C.
The logic line of the controller is powered with voltage in the range of 7.5 - 35 V DC and laser diode line has to be connected to the power supply in the range of 3.3 V - 35 V DC. This feature allows you to power your laser diode from low voltage, therefore, lower power dissipation produced by the driver.
Laser Diode Protection Features
The circuit responsible for powering a laser diode is protected against reversed polarity. The high current Schottky diode of an extremely low forward voltage protects the laser diode against connecting reversed voltage. In turn, the low forward voltage does not cause excessive heat loss during normal operation.
The analog input is protected by a 5V1 Zener diode on occasion there appears the voltage higher than 5 V. Even with this added protection, the input should not be used with higher voltages.
A microcontroller ensures the proper operation of the entire system by continuously monitoring the thermistor connection. If the thermistor connection is lost, the controller switches off the laser diode current and the TEC current. The microcontroller triggers an on-board LED alarm if the thermistor temperature measures above 40 °C; if the thermistor temperature exceeds 45 °C the laser diode current switches off.
The laser diode controller is fitted with a two-second soft-start designed to protect the laser diode against switch-on effects.
