Product Overview:

Precision Laser Diode Controller Overview

The LDC-460 laser diode controller is an affordable precision laser diode controller. These units offer a 4A low noise current source paired with a high-stability 56 watt TEC controller. This benchtop laser diode controller is easy to operate, and highly reliable for R&D and laboratory environments. These units offer industry leading laser diode protection features to ensure that your laser is protected at all times. Protection circuits and features include soft-start current ramp, current and temperature limits and a fast shut-down sequence. Additionally, transient filters and AC line filters protect the laser against black-out or brown-out power conditions. The precision TEC controller employs a full P.I.D. control loop for fast and effective thermal stabilization. The back-panel safety interlock connector ensures that the laser diode current is not switched on until the user has determined it is safe to do so.

Modulation, Internal Function Generator, and QCW Pulse Modes

In addition to low noise CW (continuous wave) mode, the LDC-460 laser diode controller offers flexible modulation capabilities and a QCW mode. The rear panel of the controller has a BNC input for an analog or TTL digital modulation input with a 10k Ω input impedance. The controller has an internal function generator which can be used to set the quasi-CW pulses. In QCW mode, the user can also set the 100μs to CW pulses from a remote TTL signal source.

TEC Controller Features

The PID control loop provides millidegree temperature stability, quickly stabilizes high heat loads to the temperature set-point, and reduces the risk of damage from overheating due to transient temperature events. The user-adjustable temperature limits are programmable to protect the laser diode and the Peltier device. Additionally, TEC output current limits are user-configured to protect the Peltier device from over-current damage.

Front Panel and Remote User Interface

Setting up and operating this benchtop controller is fast and intuitive using the front panel LCD display and alphanumeric interface with a simple to use menu structure and key pad. The controller includes an RS-232 interface. The included LabView driver GUI makes set-up and control of the system fast and simple. The controller can be ordered with an optional USB interface; contact us for more information.
