Product Overview:
High Voltage, Compact, OEM Laser Diode Driver Overview
The ATLS500MA212D is a PCB-mounted electronic module designed for driving diode lasers with up to 500mA low noise current.
In order to maximize electrical and thermal efficiency, the maximum output voltage of the driver is proportional to the input voltage (0.8 x VVPS to 0.9 x VVPS). This feature allows the designer to tailor the system to the exact laser specifications, and maximizes overall system efficiency. By deliberately matching the driver input voltage to the laser forward voltage, driver efficiency of over than 80% can be achieved.
Dual Setpoint Modulation
The driver features two independent set point inputs. The laser driver can be digitally controlled to switch between the two set points inputs to achieve rapid modulation at the two current levels.
Overheat Protection Feature
The laser driver will initiate a safety shut-down if the internal temperature exceeds 120°C. A driver status pin indicates the state of the driver for external electronics to poll.
Design and Application Flexibility
This laser driver generates a high accuracy high-stability, low-noise voltage reference output which can be used for setting the output current and also be used as the reference voltage for the ADCs (Analog to Digital Converters) and/or DACs (Digital to Analog Converters).
The ATLS500MA212D uses a constant frequency high efficiency PWM output stage. Its switching signal is taken out through a buffer at the SYNO port, pin 14, which can be used by other switch mode electronics as the trigger signal to avoid frequency beating interference, if the free-run frequency is around 500kHz (it should be noted there is an output 4mVp-p ripple voltage at 500kHz).
Evaluation Board Option
An evaluation board is available to speed R&D and prototype development activities. Inquire for a quotation for part number ATLS212EV1.0.
