Product Overview:

Overview of 30 Volt / 20 Amp High Compliance Laser Diode Driver, with 216 Watt TEC Controller

These 600 Watt high power controllers were designed with high compliance voltage to to safely drive multi-emitter laser diode modules and devices connected in series.

The standard current and voltage range for this model is 20 amps and 30 volts. On request, the current and voltage can be configured to match any customer specified range with a total of 600 Watts of output power to the laser.

Laser Diode Protection Features

To ensure that the series-connected array of diode lasers is well protected, the LDC-467 series controllers offer voltage transient protection and voltage clamping circuitry in addition to a user-set current limit. In addition to the current and TEC limits, there is an interlock safety connection as well as a front panel Emergency-Stop kill switch to ensure safe operation of the laser.

The LDC-467 offers the industries only user-set slow-start current ramp to the bias set point. This allows the user to extend the ramp time out to 10’s of seconds to prevent the possibility of thermal shock and prevent over driving the module during the start up sequence. These units ship with a default 300 milliseconds current ramp.

Temperature Controller Features:

The integrated TEC controller drives TEC-based cooling loads with up to 216 Watt output: ± 12.00 Amps and ± 14.00 Volts. The full PID control loop provides millidegree temperature stability, and can quickly stabilize high heat loads to the temperature set-point to reduce the risk of damage to your laser.

User-adjustable upper and lower temperature limits can be programmed to protect the laser diode and the Peltier device. Additionally, TEC output current limits are user-configured to protect the Peltier device from over-drive damage.

The TEC sensor input is suitable for use with 10k Ohm NTC thermistors. There is an auxiliary control capable of 24 V and 800 mA output that can be used to drive an external cooling fan.

User Interface and Cable Connectors:

Controller setup is fast and intuitive via the front panel LCD display and alphanumeric interface, with a simple to use menu structure and key pad.

The controller includes two connectors on the back panel: There is a 15-pin D-Sub connector, wired for the TEC control. The second connector is a high-current two-pin connector, type DSUB-2W2, specifically for connection to the high-power laser diode module.

These systems come with standard an RS-232 interface. The included LabView driver GUI makes set-up and control of the system fast and simple. The controller can be ordered with a USB interface; contact us for more information.
