Product Overview:

The model LDP-CW 50-05 module from PicoLAS is an affordable, small and efficient current source for driving high power laser diodes. The output current of these modules ranges from 1 amp to 50 amps CW and they accept analog modulation from input wave forms including sinusoidal, rectangular or triangular. The output modulation waveform is limited only by the load inductance, dL/dt. Multiple laser diode protection features include active current regulation to minimize current output overshoot and a soft-start feature and output shorting MOSFETS when the output is disabled. The innovative current regulation design of the LDP-CW 50-05 produces considerably less loss compared to the more common linear regulation found in other drivers. Hence only one supply voltage is needed for the control logic and the power stage. The current consumption drawn from the power supply only needs to cover the average laser power and is typically much less than 50 A. Remote monitoring of the output current and voltage is available through output ports on the module. The primary applications for these modules includes laser soldering and welding, other applications include generic surface treatment and laser demonstrations.
