These laser diode thermoelectric heat sinks are designed to simultaneously mount, cool and stabilize the temperature of two butterfly packaged devices. The TEC based cold plate is capable of removing up to 50 Watts of waste heat while maintaining thermally stabilizing the laser diode temperature at the desired set-point. The cooling design is based on Peltier coolers combined with a fan to remove the heat from the heat sink channels. These two-device mounts can be ordered configured for a single laser diode if requested . In addition to pins for measuring the thermistor inside of the butterfly packages, a thermistor pocket is machined into the the cold plate for the customer to monitor the temperature directly from the mounting plate. There are 2 rows of zero insertion force PCB headers that match the butterfly’s pin pattern. The contacts of the pin headers are all spring loaded to maintaining reliable long term electrical continuity.

The DBC series modules are provided with a plastic clamp to ensure good electrical contact from the laser diode pins to spring-loaded contacts of the pin header. In order to simplify cabling and connector requirements, all of the electrical connections are routed to a single 20-pin connector at the end of butterfly socket PCB. These modules also provides reverse bias protection for diode. They are designed to make installation and replacement of laser diodes is simple and fast. Also, the mounting plate is electrically floating for maximum flexibility to work with any package ground requirements.
