Product Overview:

These laser diode drivers are an affordable bias current source for semiconductor lasers. They deliver a maximum output power up to 300 mA and up to 8 volts of compliance voltage. These current drivers include a digital communication interface and are supplied with LabView drivers for easy set-up and control of your laser diode. An external modulation signal can be applied and these units will accept digital or analog modulation.

Protection Features for Safely Driving Your Laser Diode:
These modules offer many protection features to safely bias you laser. They have a slow-start current ramp to protect the laser during the power-on sequence. The current ramp is set to 300 milliseconds by default but can be adjusted by the user. The user can set a current limit. Additionally, on board transient filters protect the laser diode from harmful transients which can occur from brown out or black out power conditions. To protect the user, a safety interlock circuit is available for a fast shut-down under the interlock trigger conditions.

User Interface:
The user has the choice of using the standard RS232 serial interface on the rear panel or ordering the optional USB interface ($100). After connecting the driver to a PC, the LDC series module includes LabView drivers with a simple to use graphical user interface (GUI). All of the laser diode control parameters can be set and monitored using the GUI, including bias current set-point, current limit, slow-start current ramp time and modulation. If the user does not have LabView, a serial command set is provided in the manual for the user to control the driver. In addition to CW mode, the LDC includes an internal function generator which can be used to operate the laser diode in a QCW (pulsed) mode with user set pulsed width from 15 microseconds to CW. The rear panel d-SUB connector has dedicated pins for an external modulation function generator to be applied to the bias current driving the laser.

TEC Controller:
The integrated 28 watt TEC controller is a full P.I.D. loop controller based on a precision output current and voltage driver. The current and voltage source is designed for stable control of a Peltier cooler. They work with multiple temperature sensor types and utilize and h-bridge topology to sink and source power as required by the Peltier element.
