Product Overview:

15 Amp High Voltage Driver Overview

The LDC-597 high power laser diode driver offers a maximum output of up to 720 Watts (15 Amps @ 48 Volts) and can operate in constant current CW or pulsed Quasi-CW mode. These units feature a high efficiency design with high reliability components to offer long-life operation, and are integrated into industrial lasers systems used in harsh environments as well as laboratory R&D applications.

Laser Diode Protection Features

These drivers feature a user programmable soft-start ramp of the laser diode bias current. The factory sets the ramp time to 300 milliseconds as the default. This current ramp-up and ramp-down function is designed to protect the laser from thermal shock during power-up and power-down sequences. The LDC-597 has AC line filters and a fast response to shunt the current in the event of an open-circuit. Also included is the ability to control an external cooling fan: a temperature sensor input is available on the back panel, and the external fan control is capable of driving up to 800 mA at 24 V.

CW and Quasi-CW Modes of Operation

In addition to CW (continuous wave) mode of operation, the -597 offers flexible modulation capabilities and an integrated QCW mode. The controller has an internal function generator which can be used to set the modulation signal or the quasi-CW pulses with a time base accuracy of 1.0%. In QCW mode, the user can also set the pulses from a remote TTL signal source. The typical rise time of the QCW mode for these drivers is 25 µs. Faster rise times are available on request. Rise times less than 5 µs are achievable if the load and cabling are optimized for fast pulses.

Laser Driver Control Interface

The LDC-597 features an RS232 interface and includes LabView drivers. An optional USB digital interface is available; inquire for details on ordering the USB control option.
